Cardinal Burke Sees "No State of Emergency": Ordaining bishops without a papal mandate will have to be punished, Cardinal Raymond Burke told PerMariam.com. He hopes Leo XIV will appoint cardinals to continue talks with the FSSPX, saying reconciliation remains possible. Cardinal Burke, a canon lawyer, rejected rumours that all FSSPX members could be declared excommunicated: "I don’t think that can be sustained". Furthermore, he dismissed the FSSPX's claim of a "state of emergency" to justify episcopal consecrations. While acknowledging serious difficulties in the Church, he insisted that Catholics must remain faithful within the Church: "No situation justifies doing something that is intrinsically evil."

EXCLUSIVE: Cardinal Burke on the Consistory and SSPX consecrations

VATICAN CITY (PerMariam) — Cardinal Raymond Burke has given his assessment of the recent Extraordinary Consistory along with the upcoming episcopal consecrations of the Society of Saint Pius X, noting some remaining concerns about the consistory format, while lamenting the planed consecrations.
Speaking with Per Mariam following the recent consistory, Cdl. Burke offered a summary of the event which drew just under 180 cardinals to Rome for the second such meeting of Leo XIV’s pontificate. As many have similarly done, Burke welcomed the return of consistory’s to the Vatican’s regular life, since it offers a chance to “discuss important questions with regard to the Church.”
But he also raised his concerns about the small table “synodal” group method which has largely replaced the traditional open discussion. As for synodality itself, on which the cardinals were briefed during Saturday’s meeting, the American prelate said that it “remains unresolved.”
“There really needs to be a …

Vatican Responded "Good Luck" to the Catholic State Idea: Today, Bishop Bernard Fellay FSSPX ordained five priests and three deacons in Écône. During his homily, he claimed "a small incident" witnessed by all the leading figures of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, including the Prefect, the Secretary and the Undersecretary. The FSSPX said that they want to win over individuals but also societies for Christ. The alleged response from the Congregation: "Good luck." Monsignor Fellay comments: "They no longer believe it."

Mgr Fellay reports this highly revealing anecdote about the mindset of the Roman authorities. When the FSSPX tells them that it wants to work to bring souls and societies back to God, these same authorities say to it, "Good luck!" They no longer believe in it!

Toronto's Cardinal Leo posts great message for Canada Day, but where is the action?

Canada Day is a statutory holiday to mark the anniversary of the Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867. So on July 1 it's Canada's birthday. For the occasion, Toronto's Cardinal Frank Leo has released a good message. He rightly reflects on the meaning of being human, of freedom and truth. What kind of nation are we building? What are we celebrating? Here's what he says:
My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
May Jesus and Mary be in your hearts.
In the coming days we will celebrate Canada Day, a time when we rightly commemorate what Canada is: a land of peace, opportunity, and security. Gratitude matters, and it is important to recognize our blessings and give thanks. Yet this year, I would invite the faithful of the Archdiocese of Toronto to consider a deeper, more searching question undergirding our celebrations: “Who are we becoming?” not only as individuals, but as a nation.
Many of the tensions we experience today—our debates, divisions, polarization and uncertainties—…

Pope Leo appoints Archbishop Comensoli to Dicastery for Evangelisation

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Peter A Comensoli to the Dicastery for Evangelisation, Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelisation in the World. The appointment was announced on Saturday 27 June.
‘I thank the Holy Father for the trust he has placed in me with this appointment, and I commit to working diligently for the evangelising mission of the Church,’ said Archbishop Comensoli.
According to its
constitution, the dicastery ‘serves the work of evangelisation, so that Christ, the light of the nations, may be known and witnessed to by word and deed, and the Church, his mystical Body, may be built up.’
The Dicastery for Evangelisation is composed of two sections: the Section for Fundamental Questions regarding Evangelisation in the World and the Section for the First Evangelisation and New Particular Churches. It is presided over directly by the Roman pontiff, with each section directed in his name and by a pro-prefect.

Whenever Prevost (and, sadly, Bergoglio, his predecessor and mentor) makes an appointment it reminds one of the quote "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."

Leo XIV About to Appoint Another Female Prefect: According to today's report on MessaInLatino.it, Sister Alessandra Smerilli, the current Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, is set to become the Prefect of the same Dicastery. The decree has reportedly already been signed, but there has been considerable upheaval in the Vatican. Cardinal Fabio Baggio, the current Undersecretary, is expected to be appointed Pro-Prefect or Secretary. Sister Smerilli was one of Francis's most trusted lay religious advisers and a promoter of synodality, women's leadership in church governance and integral ecology. She is also a frequent participant in UN, G20 and interfaith initiatives.

Bishop James Conley, Lincoln: "There is a resurgence of interest in all things traditional, especially among young people. I see it in my own diocese. They want reverence. They want transcendence. They want beauty in the liturgy."
"Thanks be to God we have not only the Fraternity of Saint Peter, but I have a couple of priests who celebrate, with permission of the Holy See, a Sunday Mass in the Extraordinary Form... Vatican Appeal Court Upholds Conviction of Becciu Accuser: The Vatican Court of Appeal has upheld the conviction of Nicola Giampaolo for slandering Cardinal Angelo Becciu over his role at the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints. The ruling confirms the Vatican Tribunal's October 2025 judgment, leaving Giampaolo's three-and-a-half-year prison sentence and damages in place. The case stemmed from Giampaolo's claims on the Italian TV program Report that money had been requested to advance the beatification cause of former Italian Prime Minister and personal friend of Pope Paul VI, Aldo Moro. The Vatican has now definitively ruled those allegations were criminal slander.

Growing Spuds in Containers - Balcony and Backyard Potato Harvests - Ask a Prepper

Potatoes are one of the most calorie-dense, storable, and versatile survival crops you can grow, and you do not need a plot of land to grow them. Growing spuds in containers is one of the most practical food production methods available to preppers with limited space, whether that means an apartment balcony, a small urban backyard, or a homestead where every inch of garden bed is already committed to other crops.
A single five-gallon bucket can produce two to four pounds of potatoes. A 20-gallon grow bag can yield eight pounds or more. Multiply that across a dozen containers and you have a meaningful calorie reserve that you grew yourself, on your own terms, with no dependency on a grocery store or food supply chain.
This guide covers everything: container selection, soil, seed potato sourcing, planting depth, the hilling technique, watering, feeding, pest management, harvesting, and storage. By the end you will know exactly how to run a container potato operation from first planting to …

"Leo XIV's Likely Next Female Prefect Is Manipulative Careerist": According to SilereNonPossum.com, Sr Alessandra Smerilli's rapid rise through the ranks of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development — from Under-Secretary in 2021 to Secretary in 2022 — was driven by strategic networking and cultivating influential allies rather than competence. Her close ties to Monsignor Roberto Campisi, 47, opened doors to powerful Vatican circles. She repeatedly met privately with Pope Leo XIV, portraying those around him as untrustworthy and positioning herself as loyal protector.

The broom cupboard of sinecures: the nun with an appetite for Czerny’s chair

Vatican City - The Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development is one of the clearest examples of the tendency that has shaped the Roman Curia in recent years: creating vast bureaucratic catch-alls, giving them an almost limitless remit and then calling “reform” what has, in reality, been an enormous administrative mess. Francis’s project was presented as that of a Pope capable of streamlining the machinery and bringing the Curia back to essentials. The result was the exact opposite: offices merged only on paper, new appointments, new chains of command and a proliferation of posts to be handed out and protected. In the Vatican, many are convinced that they can distribute positions, salaries, titles and power. Francis handed out a great many of them.
This became particularly clear when Praedicate Evangelium was promulgated. It was not simply a case of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire, many commented within the Leonine walls: this had gone well beyond that. The …

'They killed our daughter': Couple recount heartbreak of losing newborn at Nottingham City Hospital - after damning report finds more than 500 mothers and babies died or were seriously harmed

Picture the scene. A child dies on a climbing frame at school. The headmaster calls their parent, apologising for what they say was a tragic, isolated incident. The school remains open, and everyone carries on as before. It’s unimaginable isn’t it? The school would be closed, the police called, the teachers in charge facing disciplinary action.
Yet this is how
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) behaved after our baby daughter Harriet died at Nottingham City Hospital on April 17 2016, following entirely avoidable mistakes by its medical staff. Any other setting in which a child lost their life when they should have been safe would, surely, have become a crime scene.
Yet ten years on, not a single person has been held accountable for what happened to Harriet. No jobs have been lost. No jail sentences given.
Even worse, of course, we are far from alone.
On Wednesday, senior midwife Donna Ockenden’s 343-page review of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), in …

The State of Affairs at L'Osservatore Romano: During today's Angelus, Pope Leo XIV greeted homeless people present in St Peter's Square who were distributing L'Osservatore di strada, a supplement of L'Osservatore Romano. According to Silere non possum, Andrea Monda, editor-in-chief of L'Osservatore Romano, requested that a greeting to the distributors be included in the Pope's prepared text. SilereNonPossum.com adds that Monda does not usually go to the office even on days when he is expected to be there, that public interest in L'Osservatore di strada is "non-existent," and that Monda is personally responsible for the costly project out of an "obsession."

Among the greetings drafted by the Prefecture of the Papal Household for the Pope was one addressed to the homeless people present in St Peter’s Square to distribute L’Osservatore di strada, a supplement to L’Osservatore Romano.
Naturally, the request came from Andrea Monda himself. A man who does not usually go to the office even on the days when he is expected to be there was hardly likely to spend a Sunday in St Peter’s Square beneath the scorching Roman sun of recent days. But having secured confirmation from the Prefecture that the short passage had been inserted into the text prepared for the Pope, Monda could not miss the occasion. He had to be there, he had to be seen, he had to make his presence visible at the very moment Leo XIV spoke about the costly paper. And so there he was in St Peter’s Square, beside a banner that had cost hundreds of euros, waving his arms about in his embarrassing braces to greet the Pope, who, puzzled …'Besdal

‘CULTURAL CORRECTION’: 10 Major Brands Dial Back the LGBTQ Pride

10 Companies Dialing Back Pride Month Messaging

Companies have been dialing back their LGBTQ+ Pride messaging since President Donald Trump took office last year, and analysts say that contributes to a less divisive marketplace.
“This is both a market correction and a cultural correction,” Allen Mendenhall, a senior adviser for The Heritage Foundation’s Free Enterprise Initiative, told the Daily Signal. “After years of performative corporate activism, companies are rediscovering that their customers—particularly families—do not want firms serving as vehicles for ideological agendas.”
“Businesses are increasingly rejecting pressure from activist investors and corporate bureaucracies in favor of listening to consumers and respecting longstanding moral and religious convictions,” he added. “Top-down cultural engineering is losing its grip.”
Many companies have adopted Pride messaging as a result of the environmental, social, and governance investing movement. Investors used ESG standards to direct their dollars, and they often …

Armenians Accuse Vatican Over Azerbaijan

Armenian leaders from Nagorno-Karabakh have criticized the Vatican for remaining silent about the destruction of Armenian Christian heritage and the forced displacement of Armenians after Azerbaijan's takeover of the region in 2023.
Beglaryan Artak, former human rights ombudsman of Artsakh, told the Substack.com-Account The Pillar (June 26) that the Vatican has failed to defend Armenian churches and monuments. He argued that Azerbaijan has successfully influenced the Holy See to avoid speaking out. He added many Armenians feel abandoned by the Church - although the Armenians split from the Church after the Council of Chalcedon (451).
The criticism targets the Vatican's close relationship with Azerbaijan. Armenians point to major restoration projects in the Vatican funded by the government-linked Heydar Aliyev Foundation and to the 2020 papal honor awarded to Azerbaijan's First Lady, Mehriban Aliyeva.

Holy Mother Church fostered this doctrine age after age in many ways and by solemn acts.
Liturgical Argument.
The Catholic Church, directed by the Holy Spirit of God, is the pillar and base of truth and has ever held as divinely revealed and as contained in the deposit of heavenly revelation this doctrine concerning the original innocence of the august Virgin — a doctrine which is so perfectly in harmony with her wonderful sanctity and preeminent dignity as Mother of God — and thus has never ceased to explain, to teach and to foster this doctrine age after age in many ways and by solemn acts. From this very doctrine, flourishing and wondrously propagated in the Catholic world through the efforts and zeal of the bishops, was made very clear by the Church when she did not hesitate to present for the public devotion and veneration of the faithful the Feast of …'Besdal

Why Liturgy Was Left Out at the Consistory

Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline of Marseille, France, told French daily Le Figaro on June 25 why liturgy was left off the agenda for the June consistory.
Recalling the January consistory, where he served as secretary of one of the French-speaking discussion groups, Aveline said: "At that table, I voted in favor of discussing the liturgy—but I was the only one."
The other French-speaking cardinals in his group came from different countries and did not regard liturgy as a priority.
According to Aveline, a similar pattern emerged in many other discussion groups. As a result, the liturgical question received the fewest votes and was not included among the topics for the June consistory.
